The Novo Nordisk Foundation is launching CardioMetabolic Bridge, a pan-European initiative to accelerate drug discovery for obesity and type 2 diabetes.

The foundation will provide 450 million Danish kroner ($69 million) in funding over the next six years.

The program aims to commercialize academic research through scientific mentoring and access to state-of-the-art facilities.

The first laboratory opens in London this month, with additional sites planned for Italy and Germany.

While bolstering European development, the initiative may eventually feed new treatments into Novo Nordisk’s product pipeline.
