Novo Nordisk secured a High Court interim order in South Africa to halt the sale of unapproved weight-loss drugs. The ruling prevents local pharmacy group iDexis from manufacturing or distributing compounded medicines containing semaglutide.
The court issued the order on June 22, 2026, specifically targeting unauthorized versions of Ozempic and Wegovy. Novo Nordisk filed the challenge citing patient safety risks and regulatory non-compliance.
The Danish pharmaceutical company argued that the compounded products were unregistered and untested. This legal action aligns with a global strategy to combat unauthorized copies of GLP-1 drugs amid surging demand for weight management treatments.
