The proposed $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Paramount Skydance is encountering intensified opposition as the actors' union, SAG-AFTRA, has officially joined efforts to block the deal. The union's national board passed a resolution backing a lawsuit filed by 12 state attorneys general that aims to halt the merger on antitrust grounds.
SAG-AFTRA, representing 160,000 media professionals, stated it opposes the transaction without legally enforceable guarantees to prevent production cuts and protect jobs in the U.S. This new front of opposition from labor joins existing legal challenges from the Writers Guild of America (WGA), which also filed a lawsuit alleging the deal would unlawfully reduce competition for creative talent. The merger is currently paused pending a court ruling on the states' challenge.
