Qualcomm renewed its global patent license agreement with Apple on Thursday. The new pact begins on April 1, 2027. This extension guarantees Apple continued access to essential wireless technology patents.

Qualcomm shares rose 1% in premarket trading following the announcement. Apple stock remained largely unchanged.

The partnership stems from a 2019 settlement that ended a global legal dispute over royalties. That six-year agreement included an option to extend.

Apple continues to develop in-house modem chips to reduce its reliance on Qualcomm. Significant delays in that project have forced Apple to maintain the partnership for the foreseeable future.
