Rheinmetall AG announced plans on Wednesday to more than double its gunpowder production. The company will invest approximately €350 million to expand its facility in Aschau am Inn. This expansion addresses soaring demand driven by the war in Ukraine.

The project aims to increase annual gunpowder output to 4,200 metric tons by 2028. This production boost serves to alleviate critical ammunition shortages across Europe.

The site's workforce will nearly double to 1,300 employees following the expansion. CEO Armin Papperger also confirmed the company is evaluating a potential acquisition of the German Naval Yards Kiel (GNYK) shipyard.
