China’s state-owned space contractor successfully recovered a Long March 10B first-stage booster for the first time on Friday. The booster returned to a sea-based platform in Hainan province and was caught by a specialized net system.
China is now the second country after the United States to recover an orbital-class rocket booster. This recovery method differs from the propulsive landings utilized by SpaceX.
The technology is designed to reduce launch costs and increase mission frequency. China aims to use these capabilities to compete in the global commercial launch market. This advancement will support future satellite constellations and space exploration ambitions.
