Roche reported positive Phase II trial results for enicepatide in adults with type 2 diabetes and obesity. This once-weekly dual GLP-1/GIP receptor agonist met all primary goals over 48 weeks. The study demonstrated significant, dose-dependent reductions in blood sugar and body weight.
At the highest dose, patients achieved an average HbA1c reduction of 2.65%. This group saw a mean weight loss of 15.5% without reaching a plateau. Approximately 90% of these patients reached the glycemic target for type 2 diabetes. Furthermore, 62% of patients achieved normal blood glucose levels.
The safety profile remained consistent with existing GLP-1/GIP therapies. Discontinuation rates due to adverse events remained low. These results build on previous data for enicepatide in obesity and strengthen Roche's position in the competitive metabolic disease market.
The company is moving the drug into a broad Phase III development program. Ongoing late-stage studies focus on chronic weight management. Planned trials will evaluate glycemic control and cardiovascular outcomes.
