RTX’s Raytheon division and the U.S. Navy officially unveiled the AIM-424 Malice long-range air-to-air missile. This weapon system extends engagement ranges for naval aviators to strengthen fleet defense against advanced threats.
The missile features a stated range exceeding 250 nautical miles or 463 kilometers. It supports 4th, 5th, and 6th generation aircraft including the F/A-18 Super Hornet and F-35C. The system will also integrate with future F/A-XX fighter jets.
Each missile weighs 1,500 pounds. The design fits within the internal weapons bays of stealth aircraft like the F-35C to maintain low-observable profiles.
The Navy intends the program to maintain air superiority through increased tactical flexibility. Officials publicly disclosed the missile on August 22, 2026. Flight testing began prior to the announcement, with captive-carry images dating back to April 2026.
