Safran, Airbus, Technip Energies, and Tereos have formed a joint venture named Rebound to develop a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility in Dunkirk, France. The project aims to become one of the largest production sites in Europe.
The facility targets an annual output of 160,000 metric tons of SAF. This initiative is designed to support aviation decarbonization and strengthen European energy sovereignty.
The production process utilizes Alcohol-to-Jet (AtJ) technology to convert ethanol from agricultural and forestry residues into fuel. Technip Energies will lead the development phase, while Tereos will supply the necessary ethanol feedstock.
Safran and Airbus serve as industrial partners and potential customers for the fuel. The partners have committed to funding the initial engineering phase, with the joint venture expected to be finalized in the second half of 2026.
