SoftBank Group Corp. announced a record ¥1 trillion retail bond issuance on August 24, 2026. The offering is valued at approximately $6.3 billion. This transaction represents the largest retail bond sale ever by an issuer in Japan.

Proceeds will finance expanding artificial intelligence commitments and refinance maturing debt. The funding supports significant investments in OpenAI and advanced data center technology.

The seven-year bonds carry a proposed coupon range of 4.3% to 4.9%. SoftBank expects to price the issuance on September 4, 2026. This move marks the company's third retail bond sale during 2026.

SoftBank shares fell 5.3% in Tokyo trading following the announcement. The strategy taps domestic demand for higher-yield products amid a low-interest-rate environment.
