SoftBank Group is discussing a bond issuance worth $10 billion to $20 billion with investment banks. The company intends to use the proceeds to finance its investment in OpenAI. The offering may launch as early as September in U.S. dollars and euros.
The funds will partially refinance a $40 billion bridge loan secured earlier in 2026. SoftBank expects its total investment in OpenAI to reach nearly $65 billion by October. A company spokesperson confirmed SoftBank is evaluating refinancing options but has not finalized a plan.
A $20 billion sale would rank among the largest deals from an Asian company this year. SoftBank is considering a 144A format to target U.S. institutional investors. This move would mark the company's first U.S. institutional offering in over a decade.
