Europe avoided a major jet fuel crisis this summer by increasing local production and shifting imports away from the Middle East. The supply threat began when a war in Iran blocked the Strait of Hormuz shipping lane. These disruptions initially caused flight cancellations and record-high fuel prices.

Shell Plc stabilized regional supplies by maximizing jet fuel output at all its European refineries. Increased imports from the United States and Nigeria also supported the recovery. European air traffic levels have recently surpassed 2025 benchmarks.
