SK Hynix subsidiary Solidigm is considering building a NAND flash memory factory in upstate New York. This proposed project is separate from SK Hynix’s ongoing talks with Intel regarding manufacturing at an Ohio facility.
The expansion follows U.S. administration pressure to increase domestic semiconductor production. Surging AI data center investments have also created a global memory chip shortage.
SK Hynix shares climbed over 1% in premarket trading on September 18. The move aims to strengthen Solidigm’s competitiveness while reducing reliance on manufacturing facilities in China.
