Spotify has rolled out a significant update to its lyrics feature, introducing offline access for Premium subscribers and expanding global availability for lyric translations. Paying users who have downloaded tracks can now view the accompanying lyrics without an internet connection, a key addition for travel and commuting. The update also makes lyric translations available in all markets where the service operates.
The feature enhancement is part of Spotify's strategy to add more value to its paid subscription tier. The company also redesigned the user interface, placing lyrics more prominently in the "Now Playing" view to increase engagement with what it calls one of its most popular features. This move follows a period in 2024 where Spotify tested pay-walling lyrics before reversing the decision after user complaints.
