Spotify announced it is adding two new features to its in-app Messages service: "Listening activity" and "Request to Jam". The "Listening activity" is an opt-in feature that lets users display the music they are listening to in real-time within their private chats. Friends can then play the track, save it, or react with an emoji.
The accompanying "Request to Jam" feature allows Premium subscribers to invite friends directly from a message thread into a live, shared listening session. This move builds on the growing popularity of the existing Jam feature and is designed to boost social interaction and make music discovery a more seamless, shared experience on the platform. The updates are rolling out to users on iOS and Android.
