Sempra Infrastructure’s Energía Costa Azul (ECA) LNG Phase 1 facility in Ensenada, Mexico, has started producing liquefied natural gas. This milestone advances the commissioning process toward full commercial operations in summer 2026.
The facility has a production capacity of 3.25 million tonnes of LNG per year. TotalEnergies and Mitsui & Co. have signed long-term purchase agreements for the plant's output.
The project operates as a joint venture between Sempra and TotalEnergies. Its Pacific Coast location creates a shorter, more cost-effective shipping route for U.S. natural gas to reach markets in Asia and the Pacific Basin.
