Toyota Motor Corp. secured its position as the world's top automaker by vehicle sales for 2025. This marks the sixth straight year the company has held global leadership. The ranking was confirmed after competitor Volkswagen Group reported its 2025 sales figures.
Toyota’s strong performance was driven by sales growth in key markets, including China and the United States. The automaker had already sold 10.33 million units in the first 11 months of the year, exceeding Volkswagen’s total volume.
Despite the full-year sales success, Toyota reported its first global production decline in six months for November figures. Output fell 5.5% year-over-year, totaling 821,723 units.
The drop was primarily attributed to two factors. Performance weakened in China following the rollback of government incentives. Additionally, the company cited a decrease in operating days in Japan.
