Toyota is finalizing a R10.4 billion ($634 million) investment in its Durban manufacturing plant in South Africa.
The company has commenced pilot production of the new-generation Hilux pickup truck.
This project represents the largest single product investment in the history of Toyota South Africa.
Facility upgrades and infrastructure improvements are scheduled for full completion by June 2027.
Toyota targets an annual production capacity of approximately 140,000 units at the site.
Production will serve the domestic South African market and exports to Europe and other African nations.
The investment strengthens Toyota's position in the African automotive market and establishes South Africa as a primary manufacturing hub.
