Reports initially indicated that xAI’s AI agent project, Macrohard, had stalled following leadership changes and a suspension of data collection. Simultaneously, Tesla was developing a similar internal project called Digital Optimus to perform computer-based tasks.
Elon Musk clarified that these initiatives are now a single joint project between xAI and Tesla. The unified Macrohard/Digital Optimus system integrates xAI’s Grok for high-level reasoning with Tesla-developed AI for real-time action processing.
This collaboration aligns with a previously announced agreement for Tesla to invest $2 billion in xAI.
