Samsung Electronics confirmed it will manufacture Tesla’s next-generation AI5 chip at its Taylor, Texas facility. The announcement on July 13, 2026, follows the completion of the final tape-out design stage. This milestone follows Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s initial design completion update from April.
Samsung will utilize its advanced 2-nanometer manufacturing process for the AI5 chip. The component will power Tesla’s Full Self-Driving system, Optimus humanoid robot, and AI data centers.
Initial production runs will begin later in 2026. Mass production for the AI5 chip is scheduled for 2027. Tesla is also sourcing the AI5 from TSMC to diversify its supply chain.
