The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) rejected a petition on Friday to recall approximately 2.26 million Tesla vehicles.
The petition targeted models produced since 2013 over allegations of unintended acceleration. Petitioners filed the request in March 2023, claiming features like one-pedal driving increased pedal misapplication risks.
NHTSA found no evidence of a safety-related defect during its investigation. The agency confirmed that vehicles responded to driver inputs as intended.
This ruling eliminates the immediate threat of a costly mass recall for the automaker. However, Tesla still faces an intensified investigation into its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system following several crashes.
