Tesla received regulatory approval from the Dutch vehicle authority (RDW) for its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software on Friday. This marks the first time the advanced driver-assistance system has gained approval in Europe.

The software manages most driving tasks on highways and city streets. Drivers must remain attentive and ready to take control of the vehicle at all times.

The RDW issued the approval following an intensive 18-month testing program. Tesla vehicles completed over 1.6 million kilometers of driving on European roads during the trial period.

The Dutch sign-off may be recognized by other EU member states. This milestone could accelerate the software's availability to a wider European customer base.
