TSMC Chairman C.C. Wei is reportedly preparing for his first visit to mainland China in over two and a half years, with plans to attend the company's Open Innovation Platform (OIP) Ecosystem Forum in Nanjing on December 4. During the trip, Wei is also expected to meet with several major Chinese chip design firms, including Alibaba, to discuss potential cooperation. The visit holds significant weight as it comes just before the year-end expiration of a U.S. government waiver that allows TSMC to export certain advanced chipmaking equipment to its Nanjing factory. Despite a recent decline, China remained TSMC's third-largest market in the third quarter of 2025, accounting for 8% of its revenue, highlighting the strategic importance of navigating the complex geopolitical landscape and maintaining business relationships in the region.
