Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is set to begin early construction on its next-generation 1.4-nanometer chip production line. The project, located at Taiwan's Central Science Park, will officially kick off with foundation work starting November 5. This massive undertaking represents an initial investment of $49 billion and will include the construction of four new fabrication plants. The new fabs are a strategic move to meet the surging demand for advanced chips powering artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) devices. The first of these plants is expected to begin commercializing the cutting-edge 1.4nm technology in the second half of 2028. The entire complex is projected to create between 8,000 and 10,000 jobs, significantly boosting Taiwan's position in the global semiconductor supply chain.
