Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has confirmed its plans to develop a 1.4-nanometer process, designated A14, with the groundbreaking for a new fabrication plant in Taichung, Taiwan, expected by the end of 2025. This strategic advancement in its manufacturing roadmap aims to produce chips with up to 30% less power consumption compared to previous nodes. The core research and development for the A14 process will be centered at TSMC's facility in Hsinchu. The announcement comes amid high anticipation for TSMC's third-quarter earnings report and has contributed to a surge in the company's stock, which reached a new closing high on October 15, 2025. The market's positive reaction is also fueled by strong demand for AI chips and optimism about the company's future guidance. Mass production for the A14 process is targeted for the second half of 2028.
