Uber and WeRide have launched a fully driverless robotaxi service in Dubai. The service is available to the public through the Uber app in the Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim districts. This rollout follows a supervised trial phase that began in December 2025. The initiative supports Dubai’s strategic goal to automate 25% of all transportation journeys by 2030.
Recent public filings reveal that Uber holds an approximate 5.82% stake in WeRide’s Class A ordinary shares. WeRide secured its driverless vehicle trial permit from Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority in February 2026. The company currently operates a fleet of more than 200 robotaxis within the region.
The partnership aims to deploy at least 1,200 robotaxis across the Middle East by 2027. This fleet expansion will include operations in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Riyadh.
