Uber has introduced Cart Assistant, an AI-powered feature within the Uber Eats app designed to automate grocery shopping. Users can build shopping carts by entering text commands or uploading photos of handwritten lists and recipes. The tool integrates user order history with real-time inventory, pricing, and promotions from retailers including Kroger and Albertsons.

The launch has intensified competition in the online grocery delivery sector against rivals Instacart and DoorDash. Following the announcement, Instacart (CART) shares fell more than 5%. The stock reached a new 17-month low. This feature aligns with Uber's strategy to deploy practical AI solutions to expand its presence in the grocery market.
