Rideshare Drivers United filed a lawsuit against Uber in California on Monday, April 20, 2026. The advocacy group represents more than 20,000 drivers.
The suit alleges Uber violated Proposition 22 by failing to provide a mandated appeals process for deactivated drivers. Proposition 22 currently allows gig economy companies to classify workers as independent contractors.
Plaintiffs argue that Uber should be barred from using the contractor classification due to this alleged non-compliance. An Uber spokesperson called the lawsuit a baseless publicity stunt and stated the company complies with the law.
