Waymo is exploring an exit from its robotaxi partnership with Uber. The Alphabet-owned unit cites growing competition and strategic disagreements as primary drivers.

The companies first established their partnership in 2023. Relationship tensions stem from disputes over service quality, safety, and conflicting legislative lobbying efforts.

Waymo plans to launch independent operations in Austin and Atlanta. These independent services are scheduled to begin in January 2028.

Uber will continue offering Waymo services until the contract expires in May 2028. This split signals a shift from collaboration to direct competition in the autonomous vehicle sector.
