Meta Platforms and Broadcom extended their strategic partnership to co-develop custom artificial intelligence silicon through 2029. Broadcom will serve as the primary partner for future generations of Meta’s Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) chips. These proprietary chips will power Meta’s global AI infrastructure.

The agreement includes an initial commitment for over one gigawatt of computing capacity. This marks the first phase of a planned multi-gigawatt rollout. Meta is pursuing vertical integration to create energy-efficient chips for specific internal workloads. This strategy reduces Meta's reliance on expensive, general-purpose GPUs from external vendors.

The collaboration provides Broadcom with a multi-billion dollar revenue opportunity. Broadcom shares rose approximately 3.7% following the announcement. The deal establishes Broadcom as a key partner for hyperscale providers building bespoke AI systems.
