TSMC is reviving plans for a next-generation semiconductor factory in Longtan, northern Taiwan. The project involves a potential investment of approximately 600 billion New Taiwan dollars ($18.9 billion). This facility will produce advanced nanometer-process chips to meet soaring demand for high-performance computing.

Local opposition previously forced a halt to the Longtan expansion in 2023. The company is now managing up to ten different fab construction or expansion projects across Taiwan. TSMC set its total capital expenditure between $52 billion and $56 billion for 2026.

This development secures future production capacity for primary clients including NVIDIA, Apple, and AMD. The expansion remains a critical factor for the growth of the global AI industry and technology sector investors.
