Rotron Aerospace completed the first successful test flight of its SkyLance expendable strike drone on May 12. The flight validated propulsion and system performance for the new one-way effector platform.
The system provides Western militaries with a low-cost, mass-deployable strike option. This development aligns with NATO strategies to counter adversaries capable of generating large-scale missile and drone salvos.
SkyLance functions as a precision-effect weapon at a fraction of the cost of traditional cruise missiles. The platform addresses critical munition shortages highlighted by the conflict in Ukraine.
Rotron’s recent acquisition by US-based Ondas is expected to drive significant export opportunities. These systems aim to maintain credible deterrence by supplementing expensive conventional munitions with large-scale strike capabilities.
