The U.S. Department of the Navy established the Portfolio Acquisition Executive (PAE) for Munitions on May 11, 2026. This office implements enterprise-level strategies to accelerate the development and delivery of weapons to sailors and Marines. The restructuring aims to strengthen the domestic industrial base and increase production capacity for critical programs.

The PAE Munitions umbrella consolidates previously separate offices for precision strike weapons, air-to-air missiles, and the Tomahawk weapons system. This change follows a directive from the Secretary of War to transform acquisition into a faster, more adaptable function.

The initiative focuses on scaling production to counter pacing threats. Deliveries of several critical components recently exceeded contract rates for the first time in years. The Navy is now adopting the PAE model as the operational standard for the naval acquisition enterprise.
