Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) confirmed it will build advanced sub-1.4nm (A14) process fabs at the Hsinchu Science Park’s Longtan site. The National Development Council approved the site’s expansion on September 17.

The plan involves three initial fabs with a total potential investment exceeding NT$1 trillion. TSMC targets the first facility for completion around 2030.

The company previously abandoned this location in October 2023 due to land acquisition issues. Significant hurdles remain, including environmental reviews and the procurement of power and water resources.

TSMC stock led a broader market rally on September 18. The TAIEX index surged over 700 points following the news.
