Apple faces scrutiny for allegedly violating U.S. sanctions by hosting applications from blacklisted entities on its App Store.

The Tech Transparency Project (TTP) published a report, highlighted by The Washington Post, detailing the violations. TTP found 52 apps originating from companies under U.S. sanctions. These entities include Russian banks supporting the war in Ukraine and a Chinese paramilitary group linked to human rights abuses.

This is not Apple’s first such accusation; the company was fined in 2019 for similar violations and pledged to improve its sanctions screening tools. Following the TTP findings, Apple removed many of the identified applications. The company maintains, however, that not all apps were hosted in violation of sanctions. No immediate market reaction was detailed.
