A U.S. federal judge has ruled that Apple and OpenAI must face a lawsuit from Elon Musk's X Corp, denying their motion to dismiss the case. The lawsuit accuses the two companies of conspiring to monopolize the smartphone and generative AI chatbot markets through the exclusive integration of ChatGPT into Apple's software and devices. The suit, filed by Musk's X and xAI, alleges that Apple's partnership with OpenAI illegally sidelines rival AI chatbots. X Corp also claims that Apple reinforces this alleged monopoly by prominently featuring ChatGPT in its App Store while giving less visibility to competing services. Apple has countered that its agreement with OpenAI is not exclusive and that choosing one partner first is not against the law.
