Apple today announced a significant expansion of its investment in renewable energy across Europe, committing to new large-scale solar and wind projects in Greece, Italy, Latvia, Poland, and Romania. This initiative is part of Apple's ambitious goal to be carbon neutral across its entire business, manufacturing supply chain, and product life cycle by 2030. The new projects are expected to generate over 1,000 GWh of clean energy annually, which will help Apple match the electricity consumption of its European customers for charging their devices. The company stated that the energy used to charge devices accounted for approximately 29% of its overall greenhouse gas emissions in 2024. Apple's involvement in these projects has reportedly helped unlock $600 million in financing. This announcement comes as Apple faces scrutiny over its environmental claims, including a recent court ruling in Germany that found advertisements for the Apple Watch as carbon neutral to be misleading.
