Apple has legally challenged a new antitrust law in India, filing a petition in the Delhi High Court to have it declared illegal. The primary issue is a provision that allows the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to calculate potential penalties based on a company's global turnover, which for Apple, could lead to a staggering fine of up to $38 billion. The company argues in its 545-page filing that the law is "manifestly arbitrary, unconstitutional, grossly disproportionate, unjust." This move is the first major legal challenge to this new Indian regulation and comes while the CCI is already investigating Apple for alleged anti-competitive practices in its app store and payment systems.
