Apple will permanently close its Towson, Maryland, retail store in June.

The location became the first unionized Apple store in the U.S. in 2022. Employees at the site are members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM).

Apple attributed the closure to declining conditions and departing retailers at the Towson Town Center mall. The company is also closing two additional stores in Connecticut and California for similar reasons.

The IAM union labeled the decision a cynical attempt to bust the union and is exploring legal options. Approximately 90 affected employees are eligible to apply for other roles within the company under their collective bargaining agreement.
