Apple plans to release its first foldable smartphone in September 2026, entering a market segment currently led by Samsung. Samsung Display, Apple's sole panel supplier, is scheduled to begin panel production in May. This timeline aims to meet the potential September launch, though the release date could still be pushed back.
The initial production batch targets panels for approximately 9 million units. This supply is intended for the vertically folding device.
This development follows Samsung Display's recent actions at the CES trade show. The supplier unveiled an advanced OLED display featuring a less noticeable crease. The company abruptly removed the display after reports linked the technology to Appleās upcoming foldable phone.
Both Apple and Samsung Display declined to comment on the matter.
