Apple Inc. is expanding its manufacturing operations into Vietnam for its new push into the smart home market, a strategic move to decrease its reliance on China. The company is developing a line of new home devices, including a display that functions as a home command hub and indoor security cameras, which are slated to be built in Vietnam. Furthermore, a more advanced tabletop robot is planned for 2027 and will also be manufactured in the country. This decision marks a significant change in Apple's typical strategy of initiating production of new devices in China before expanding elsewhere. For the upcoming home hub and robot, Apple is partnering with BYD Co., a Chinese company increasingly involved in Apple's supply chain. The home hub, featuring a 7-inch display, was initially planned for a 2025 release but has been delayed to spring 2026 due to postponements in the underlying AI software.
