Amazon unveiled Vulcan, its first warehouse robot featuring force-feedback sensors and a sense of touch. The machine uses AI and advanced robotics to pick and stow items with human-like finesse. This technology allows the robot to navigate tightly packed spaces without damaging merchandise.
Vulcan handles approximately 75% of items stored in Amazon facilities. It operates at speeds comparable to human workers. The robot performs physically demanding tasks like retrieving items from the highest and lowest shelves.
This automation allows employees to work in ergonomic power zones, reducing the need for ladders and bending. Amazon initially showcased the technology at its Delivering the Future event.
Deployment has begun at sites in the U.S. and Germany. A broader rollout is planned for coming years as part of an expanded investment in European operations.
