Ford Motor Co. discussed licensing automotive technology from China’s Geely Automobile Holdings for the U.S. market. The Wall Street Journal reported these negotiations began last year.
The talks were part of a broader plan for a European joint venture between the two automakers. Ford pursued the strategy to remain competitive within the evolving automotive landscape.
Efforts to bring the Chinese technology to the U.S. have stalled in recent months. Both companies have now shifted their primary collaboration focus to the European market.
