Ford Motor Company is recalling 140,201 Ranger pickup trucks in the United States. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identified a fire risk stemming from damaged A-pillar wiring. Electrical shorts in these wires increase the likelihood of fires, injuries, or crashes.
Improperly positioned sun visor or headliner wiring harnesses caused the potential damage. Excessive tape thickness on these harnesses also contributed to the wiring defects.
Ford dealers will inspect the wiring and replace damaged harnesses for free. Technicians will also update the body control module software at no cost to owners.
