Ford Motor Company initiated two separate U.S. recalls affecting more than 235,000 vehicles due to potential fire hazards, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported.
The first recall involves 119,075 vehicles. The issue stems from the engine block heater, which could crack and leak coolant, causing a short circuit and fire when plugged in. This recall affects certain Focus, Escape, Explorer, and Lincoln MKC models.
Ford advises owners not to use the engine block heaters until dealers complete free repairs.
The second recall affects 116,672 vehicles. This action addresses a separate electrical short circuit issue that also increases the risk of fire.
