Ford Motor Company's second-quarter U.S. sales fell 10% year-over-year to 549,200 vehicles. The decline stemmed from the planned phase-out of Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair models. Ford also deliberately cut lower-margin sales to daily rental fleets by 69%. Despite the quarterly drop, Ford's estimated retail market share in June increased slightly to 12.3%.
Ford's powertrain performance showed a divergence. Sales of battery-electric vehicles plunged 40.7% during the quarter. In contrast, Ford's hybrid and SUV lineups delivered strong results. The Maverick Hybrid set a second-quarter sales record. The Bronco SUV also set a second-quarter sales record. The F-Series remained America's best-selling truck. Its sales declined 11% due to lingering supply chain issues.
