GE Aerospace successfully completed the first-ever hybrid electric propulsion flight at altitudes exceeding 30,000 feet. The company announced the milestone at the Farnborough International Airshow. This altitude matches the typical cruising levels of commercial passenger aircraft.

The test utilized a modified Saab 340B aircraft. This demonstration was part of NASA’s Electrified Powertrain Flight Demonstration (EPFD) project. GE Aerospace collaborated with NASA, Boeing, and BETA Technologies for the campaign.

The team recorded a longest single flight of over two hours in hybrid electric mode. This achievement supports the CFM International RISE (Revolutionary Innovation for Sustainable Engines) program. The technology aims to develop more efficient and sustainable aircraft engines for future aviation.
