Philippine Airlines (PAL) is preparing to order 15 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners. The carrier will also acquire nine Airbus A350-1000 jets. This marks PAL's first aircraft purchase from Boeing in nearly two decades.

The fleet expansion supports a long-term strategy to modernize the airline's international network. The Boeing 787-10 acquisition initiates an engine competition between GE Aerospace and Rolls-Royce.

PAL expects to formally announce the aircraft order at this month's Farnborough Airshow. A separate contest will determine the final engine supplier selection.
