The Canadian government seeks to recover "hundreds of millions of dollars" from General Motors. Industry Minister Melanie Joly confirmed the claim.
The recovery follows GM's reduction of production output in the country. The financial support provided by Canada was contingent on GM maintaining specific production levels.
GM recently canceled a third shift at its Oshawa, Ontario, factory. The automaker also announced it would not resume electric van production in Ingersoll, Ontario.
GM cited weak demand for the decision regarding Ingersoll. Canada had previously provided approximately C$260 million for the Ingersoll facility.
