General Motors will begin assembling the Chevrolet Groove and Aveo models at its Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico. This initiative shifts production for the Mexican domestic market away from China. The automaker will continue to source parts for these vehicles from China.

The move is part of a previously disclosed $1 billion investment in the country. Mexico's President, Claudia Sheinbaum, attended the formal announcement event. Vehicle assembly is scheduled to commence in 2027.

GM aims to produce 80,000 vehicles annually by 2030. The Chevrolet Aveo remains one of the company's top-selling models in Mexico. This strategic pivot follows a period of declining sales for General Motors in China.
